Date explored for 2008/09 Summit

It has been an eventful year for each of the participants of 2007's Summit for Servant Leaders. Center for Sharing has deepened work in Mexico, expanded into the Philippines, and faced new obstacles and victories in India. Northwest Nazarene University has greeted new students and professors from Kazakhstan and Ukraine, while continuing to cultivate new opportunities at home and abroad for students of leadership. The MCF deepened partnerships with old and new which took them to Afghanistan with Morningstar Development.
And this is the tip of the iceberg. In January, we'd like to better inform each of our guests at the 2008/09 Summit for Servant Leaders to be held in Hood River, Oregon. The one day event will include a morning and afternoon workshop focused on sharpening the skills of Servant Leader groups, with each workshop surrounded by round-table discussion of each organization's challenges and victories since we last met.
You can join the one day event by leaving a message on this blog or writing to chris@TheMCF.org. Your thoughts and ideas are welcome to ensure we endeavor to better serve each of you and your missions. We are currently considering January 14 as our date, details to be determined.
New participants could include Morningstar Development, John Haller Institute, and Catalyst Projects as we work to broaden our collaborative work and effect a lasting and more fruitful outcome of our work. Stay posted.

Affirmations from 2007 SSL

We, the undersigned, affirm that:
  • Responding to Human Needs in the form of servant leadership represents our obligation to honor God through our call to local and international ministry.
  • Collaboration in Kingdom Ministries is a compelling, Christ-honoring ideal that should be fostered among churches, businesses, universities, non-profits and international agencies. Moreover, lasting partnerships are most likely when each participant can identify direct benefits that occur through collaboration.
  • Nurturing New International Relationships between lay people with those who are searching for purpose can be facilitated through Christ-based development projects and through higher education.
  • Business as Mission underscores the kingdom purposes of business in creating economic opportunity, meeting human needs, and modelling servant leadership principles. International fellowships of business leaders could become a valuable tool for ministry.
  • Business for Mission offers great potential for creating jobs at international locations and for launching and sustaining international outreaches. Businesses have significant experience in identifying and cultivating opportunity and should be included in this effort. Additionally, the business faculty and graduate students at Christ-centered universities should be encouraged to assist in creating criteria for evaluating international business opportunities.
  • Mission at our Doorsteps has become a God-given reality as the mission field continuously arrives at our churches, campuses and businesses in the form of immigrants, international students and teachers, persons living with physical afflictions, politically active groups, poverty stricken, and the oppressed.
  • Modelling Servant Values is our commission and our calling. God calls believers to demonstrate passion for the needs of others and lead by serving. Therefore, we must encourage compassionate relationships born of faith in Christ, reaching into people’s lives wherever we are. We must work in unity while being open and real with one another about our own brokenness. We must place the common good before self-interest. We must abandon a “black and white” understanding of what is culturally correct and incorrect and adopt a relational approach in non-judgmental ministries that reach a person separated from Christ.
  • Give (and Go) with Confidence Chris & Elisabeth Anderson, Mission Oaxaca
  • will be developed to provide a directory of organizations that embrace servant leadership principles and connect prospective volunteers and supporters to a map of service opportunities around the globe. Additionally, GWC will provide resources to these organizations so that they can more easily embrace philanthropic opportunities and innovative methods of reaching their supporters effectively. Go with Confidence will provide a tangible connection to the ministries both local and abroad that reflect the principles of servant leadership.
  • Identifying, Incubating and Promoting those called to Servant Leadership will become part of our core values as we move forward in fellowship with each other and those who benefit from our collaborations.
